This dahlia seedling was a fun one. Her mama is one of my favorites, La Corbiere. I don't go by the rules and wait to name things until they're stable, I give the ones I like nicknames right away. This one is Cerise. She's got a little bit of cherry/raspberry tone with a touch of yellow in her center. When she first bloomed, I wasn't sure she'd have enough petals, but towards the end of the season she bloomed again and kept a tight center, so she gets to hang around for another year.
I'm slowly starting to get things dug up. The weather has stayed fairly nice and I'm going to be so mad at myself later for not getting it all done now, when I'm digging in the cold. Hope everyone else is digging faster than me!

Dahlia seed collecting ASMR.
I really enjoy the process of getting dahlia seeds out of their seed pods. It's a tactile thing. I started to record a video explaining the process, but then I realized, what I like about it is that calm good-sensory feeling, otherwise known on the Internet as ASMR or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. So I figured I'd share that feeling with you instead.

So very excited to share this new introduction from @starlitdahlias with you all! Starlit Everlasting is a darling white with just a hint of purple blush to her.
If you've followed along for a bit, you know I love collecting and comparing whites. When the color is the same, the form is what really shines on white flowers and this one has a lovely petal shape with a pearly flutter to them. They fold and layer in a way that's both soft and sculptural.
The feel is sort of, ranunculus meets rose and this is why I can't quit dahlias. There's always something new and beautiful to grow. Speaking of beautiful, Kristin is the hybridizer of @starlitdahlias and she's a beautiful person who you should definitely follow so you can snag these new releases, but also just because she's good people. We can all use more good people in our lives.

Whew, I'm home again from all my adventures, but I made one last stop on the way to the airport at @geerlingsdahlia. What a treat to see all the beautiful dahlias they grow for sale! I got to speak with one of the owners, it was so fun to hear what he likes. (I think Sandia Bliss is his current favorite and generally he's a waterlily fan.)
The reel is a little frantic because I wanted to look at everything before I left for the airport so I had to keep my visit to thirty minutes. I was basically dashing through the dahlias. 😆

The Intratuin in the Netherlands is a garden center to beat all garden centers. I think it's probably comparable in size to an IKEA. They have multiple places to get food, plants, bulbs, pots and this time of year, an entire holiday section complete with shows and animatronics.
Good thing I have to fly home so I couldn't buy it all. I did snag a type of allium that I haven't seen in the US, it has the international stamp of approval, so I'm told it's allowed to come with me.
